Planned to enter service in Q1 2022, the A220-300 together with the little A220-100 will fly short and medium haul routes from Rome Fiumicino (FCO) and Milan Linate (LIN).
ITA is the new flag carrier of Italy, wholly owned by the Ministry of Finance, born in 2021 to replace Alitalia, the 74 years old loss making airline. The airline is flying with A319s, A320s and A330-200s previously owned by Alitalia and with the new A220s, A320neo, A321neo, A330-900neo and A350-900s that will be delivered starting January 2022.
As the new airline has replaced Alitalia, it is necessary to add the new callsign and the new livery of ITA airways in the future A220-300 update of IF!
The order is confirmed and they will take 15 A220-300 and 7 A220-100, deliveries starting March 2022. Theyâre all leased so donât expect it on the list of orders because theyâre listed under the lessor name.
Iâm not really a fan of the livery but I must admit that on the little âbus it looks nice. Be aware that the only one render of the livery, everyone saw on the internet, is actually a bad quality photo made by a journalist attending ITAâs first press conference.
Nice addition to IF.
One thing however ITA needs is also the A332, A330Neo and A350 liveries.
Dont hit me with the A320 blue livery, i see the old Alitalia livery buses literally all day.
Oh and also, A320 Born in 2021 livery.
The order has now been turned from an MoU to a firm order with deliveries starting next Spring. Sadly we neither know the delivery timeline for the A220 yet nor the variants that the deliveries will come in.
Here is a picture by Airbus showing the aircraft directly ordered from Airbus (not counting the orders for leased aircraft from ALC):
Thank you guys for the support! Keep voting! As ITA is about to become one of the biggest operator of this type, we NEED to have it a itâs the upcoming update!
