Issue with the Autopilot when I switch on the VNAV

Hi guys, I am new to IF.
I am experiencing issues with VNAV , my autopilot on Vnav just starts to go crazy, my plane starts going in random direction at regardless of altitude, are there some settings I need to adjust. Aso my autopilot works fine on the GPS.

Hello @Paras_Dhatwalia

There are several factors that can cause VNAV not to work as expected.
To help you finding what’s the cause in your case it would help I’d you could give some more information.

  • Which Aircraft are you flying?
  • Current weight?
  • indicated air speed ?
  • Attitude?
  • Target attitude ?
  • Flap state ?

Those are just some of the things that play a role.

Currently unable to record sorry, but happens I change from gps to Vnav and while landing when I select approach ,as soon as I selected approach my autopilot disengaged??

Hi, this happened a few weeks ago, i didn’t know support existed :downcast_face_with_sweat: so I just kept using the GPS as it works, I raised this issue so I could know what is so different between the two modes that plane does those aerobatics.

You don’t need to record anything yourself. It should all be recorded automatically by the in-app Replay system. You can read more about it, as well as how to share your replay below:

Ah, ok.
So the most generic answer that could be given is that you might haven been to slow.
Autopilot in general does try to keep the aircraft flying as long as it could based on the settings you made.
If it is in a situation where wit barely could keep the aircraft flying already, and you add a extra task, descending in this case, it might fail.

To give it a try:

  • start a flight with a flight plan.
  • When at cruise attitude try to fly it manually without AP
  • when you fly stable engage the AP step by step, course, attitude, speed
  • Now activate VNAV.
does it work? If not what was your speed and flap setting?

You mean APPR? This could cause the AP to disengage if you are over maximum landing weight.

Damn you guys have replays , I will share it if I face this problem again thanks for helping though

K thanks , will share if I face this problem again :hugs:
