Is this correct?

I have departed an airport and handed off to departure.
Am I supposed to use the “Check in” message at first. Or do I request radar vectors/approach at my destination airport?

Same with Center and approach.

I always check in to make sure they know I’m here.

Real life: check in.

IF: say intentions (request approach, vectors, VFR, etc)

Always request first. Check in should only be used when changing from a radar frequency to another radar frequency.

So I request radar vectors/flight following etc. when handed off to departure but when handed off to Center/Approach I use check in?

Yes, as you already got your clearance and they know you’re destination on which RWY you request APP.
