I hope this message finds you all well. I’m reaching out to you today because I’m contemplating an upgrade and could use your expert advice.
My Current Setup
Currently, I play Infinite Flight on my iPhone 15 Pro Max. While it runs beautifully, I’ve found it challenging to conduct long-haul flights, as I need my phone regularly throughout the day. As a solution, I’m considering getting an iPad to handle these extended sessions.
The Dilemma
My primary question is whether it’s worth investing in the latest iPad Pro for Infinite Flight, especially considering its advertised features like Ray Tracing, or if the standard, more affordable iPad would suffice. Here are the points I’m particularly interested in:
Performance and Smoothness: Does Infinite Flight run smoothly on the base model iPad at high settings? My experience has been limited to the iPad Pro 10.5 and my iPhone 15 Pro Max, both of which handle the game excellently.
Future-Proofing with Ray Tracing: With the iPad Pro now supporting Ray Tracing, I’m curious if there are any upcoming developments from the Infinite Flight developers that would leverage this technology. Would it enhance the visual experience significantly?
Community Experience: Have any of you made a similar switch from a high-end device to a base model iPad? If so, how does Infinite Flight perform in terms of graphics and frame rates? Are there noticeable differences that justify the extra cost of the iPad Pro?
Why I’m Considering This
The idea behind getting an iPad is to have a dedicated device for Infinite Flight, allowing me to leave it running for long-haul operations without worrying about needing my phone. However, I want to ensure that I’m making a wise investment. If the base model iPad can handle the game well enough, I’d prefer to save some money.
Your Insights Needed
I would greatly appreciate any insights, experiences, or advice you could share. Specifically:
Does Infinite Flight run smoothly on the base iPad at high settings?
Are there any known or upcoming updates that will utilize Ray Tracing on the iPad Pro?
Would the investment in an iPad Pro provide a significantly better Infinite Flight experience compared to the base iPad?
Thank you in advance for your help! I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts and recommendations.
Yes. It is definitely worth it. Especially the bigger screen and efficiency. The iPad is just a bigger phone and i recommend it. I use an iPad so i have experience
I’ve got a iPad, 9th generation. Works well, with infinite flight. Doesn’t overheat, had no problems. 😀🇬🇧👍. Best you shop around. Get more feedback, from the community.
I recommend shopping around, you can find some excellent deals on previous gen iPads, especially the air and pro since new models came out. I play on an M1 iPad, and it has no issues at all with IF.
I bought a 6th-gen IPad Pro during November sales season because I thought all the long hauls would eventually kill my ‘17 iPad Pro but it’s been holding up so well that I only use the 6th Gen to do touch and goes while I’m long hauling on the ‘17.
On my ‘17 I can do Dubai-San Francisco and back to Dubai with no problem or crashes. I usually put graphics to low but when I’m landing or taking off I have graphics on high with anti aliasing on.
In summary, the ‘17 does so well that the 6th gen and newer should be more than enough!
I use a 2023 iPad Pro 12.9” for mainly editing airports and IFATC. I’ve been able to run 60 fps and Anti-Aliasing without any problems. Sure it gets hot here and there but doesn’t shut down because of it.
I’d say it highly worth the investment for flying too! I’ve used it a few times for flights and handles exceptionally well. Take it or leave it, I love the iPad Pro!
I’ve been playing Infinite Flight on an iPad Pro 12.9 2020 for 4 years now - and it’s still running very smoothly. I’d say it’s definitely worth getting an iPad with a larger screen. I’ve grown used to it now but I remember the Wow-Effect on seeing IF on a big screen for the first time. You don’t need to get the newest gen iPad Pro, because as I said, it’ll run smoothly on older models too. But I’d say it’s worth it.
