Is copying other people flight plans illegal? Because a lot of people make it seem like a really big deal.

No, copying flight plans do not break any rules. You can copy a flight plan if you wish. If anyone gives you grief about it, I’d simply ignore the message or flag it if it starts escalating

No, not at all!
However, I must add that copying flight plans may cause some problems for the other half.
I’d suggest using different waypoints, even if the destination is the same just to avoid any confrontations!

As long as you maintain separation with the other pilot, there shouldn’t be an issue

True, but we don’t ever verbally abuse someone. If you don’t like it, then tell them to stop nicely. I don’t care if people copy my flight plan, but I do care if they are too close and I have to re-pattern so that I can land safely.
If you are going to copy someones flight plan, I recommend waiting 10-15 minutes before flying to keep a gap between you and them.
(it goes both ways to! if someone tells you to stop, stop.)

You will get locked up in Infinite Flight jail for 1 week. Just kidding, I have had plenty of people copy my fpl, but they dont complete the flight because its way too long once they realise 🤣

To answer the real questions, nope it’s not illegal to copy because there is a reason for the button to copy fpl and yeah it might create problems like flight coordination and all which is manageable but the fact is that the “copying” part is 100% legal, even if police is there.

Someone did this to me the other day and I kind of wanted to fly alone so I just despawned as I was entering the runway, they flew for 5 minutes, got bored, left, and I respawned and completed my flight. It’s not illegal but it can be annoying because you don’t know if the other person is there to disturb you or not.

Copied another guy doing LAX - NRT a couple days ago. They did nothing at all and seemed to not mind, As I was already close to the coast of Japan at the time, I made it so my plane did a couple more turns, as to not cause any space conflict. So it seems legal

To me unless ur doing a group flight with me its very illegal i mean how can someone be that lazy to make their own FPL and just copy others (but if it do happen then i wont care tbh)
