iPhone 8 Constantly Crashing

Hello, my name is Logan. I an apart of the AAVA (American Airlines Virtual Airline). I have been flying in Infinite Flight for a while, but have had issues in the past 1-2 months. After about an hour or so, of whenever I am about to land (if it is under an hour of flight time), the app always crashes. I have never really been able to make it through a 1+ hour flight because of this. It has been happening for nearly 2 months. What can I do to fix this?

Hey there!

Sorry to hear about your issues with the IF app crashing. To start off, could you please let us know the brand, model and OS of the device you’re using? We’re unable to assist you without this information - hence why it’s part of the Support topic template ;)

(forgot to include this in the first message, sorry 😬)

Just to clarify, is that the iPhone 8, or the iPad 8th Gen?

its the iPhone 8

its old. but until the past couple months, it has worked fine

Gotcha! Unfortunately, your device is quite old - nearly 7 years old, at this point - and it doesn’t meet IF’s iOS Device requirements. The iPhone 8 (non-Plus variant) has only ever shipped with 2GB or RAM, which is below the 3GB minimum that IF recommends.

You may be able to fly with your current device still by setting your graphics & airplane count to the absolute lowest, as well as restarting your device between different flights, to free up the most amount of RAM for IF to use up; however, I doubt your experience would be pleasant, really. I’d look into getting a new, more powerful device if I were you.

Makes sense. Im getting a new phone in the upcoming month since an iphone 8 is super old. i also have an iPad 10 but am looking to replace my current device with a iPhone 13. Which one do you believe would work best? iPad 10 or iPhone 13?

thank you so much for your help

The two main differences between these 2 devices are the processor - the iPhone 13 features the A15 chip, whereas the iPad 10th Gen features the A14, though there shouldn’t be any enormous performance differences between the two chips; and the screen sizes - the iPad naturally features a bigger screen, which, in my opinion, brings more joy and ease when flying. The RAM is the same for both devices - 4GB each.

If you’d like, you can check out community members’ reviews of the iPhone 13 Pro - I’ve linked the iPhone 13 Pro review, as there’s no review for the regular 13; the only difference between the two variants is the RAM - the regular 13 has 4GB, as opposed to the Pro’s 6GB. The 10th Gen iPad doesn’t have a review on the Device Compatibility Thread yet, but this opens an excellent opportunity for you to contribute, if you’d like!

I have an iphone 8…. It’s kind of weak to run IF, it’s warm while doing so. It’s like 7 years old by now, and with many mobile devices nowadays having processors that can rival or even surpass some PC processors it’s just hard for the 8 to keep up. It’s also got limited memory.

do you also have it crash a lot?

sounds good. thank you so much for the help

no because I no longer fly on it

it did have a few crashes when i was first using it, but I think those were just due to busy airports

Ahh. Makes sense
