I’m going to be buying an iPad soon, and upgrading from my current iPhone 13 for Infinite Flight. At first I was thinking of buying the iPad mini, since I have quite small hands and thought that the bigger model like the air might be hard to use. I was wondering if buying the air is worth it compared to the mini?
I would recommend you the iPad Pro 2024 for the best experience - 120hz Display + amazing chip. If you want to save some money, i would go for the iPad Air M3. iPad mini is okay, but the chip is not that powerful as the M3 and M4 chips.
Thanks for the info! I’m happy to buy the iPad Air. Is the A17 Pro chip suitable for IF to not have lag and frame rate drops? I’m aware the M3 chip is very powerful.
Here is a comparison between them. A17 Pro on the left side and M3 on the right side. I havent used A17 Pro device for Infinite Flight. Currently using M1, M2 and A18 Pro and the M2 is
I use the base model iPad 10th Generation A16 and it works just fine IMO. Battery life is great and able to run Autopilot+ in the background no problem.
Sometimes, I’ve been in Newark a couple times with planes lined up all down the taxiway, only thing is sometimes they don’t render in fully till I’m close. But no lag. Unless you need an iPad for something other than infinite flight I would just get a base model…I picked up my 10th generation on sale from Best Buy for 400 CAD.
I am using the iPad Air 5 with the M1 chip. Size is perfect, I can reach the whole screen with my thumbs left and right, I have all graphics options on highest, fps 30 and no issues at all.
I only ask myself, if a higher chipset would show me more planes lined up, waiting for departure in a row, or if this is an ingame limitation, because I have no lagging or framerate drops at all. Even when reviewing flights from the tower perspective, sometimes I see aircrafts just seconds before they hit the runway when landing, even though the airport was not busy at that time.
I hope you are fine, i buy iPad 2025 yesterday and it was an amazing iPad. IF runs very smooth on 60fps with no lag. It’s amazing experience to convert from iphone 13 to iPad and iPad is budget iPad. Would recommend you this iPad and is 11”.
Hello! I’d like to get some more recommendations for this topic. Im really stuck between the mini and air, since I have some weirdly small hands, i wanted to know if it’s defo worth spending the extra money to get the air. And how long the devices will hold up before I need to make compromises to the graphics. Does anyone have any problems with these devices
I have this as well (Air 5), and while I haven’t played for a bit it worked wonderfully back when I did. You can easily do overnights without having it on charger, no lag running max everything. I did a week long flight with it and it didn’t even heat up.
Yes, I don’t know how many hours I have on it but it’s a couple thousand minimum. Think the battery on it is still around 90% ish. I will say it definitely felt kind of overkill for IF but better that than the other way around I suppose.
I have and use the iPad mini (6th gen, 2021) for Infinite Flight. The mini is good for portability and is light on the hands. However, it is not as immersive compared to the regular sized or larger iPads. I used to have an iPad Pro with a larger screen, and moving to the mini display made it harder to read and look at the live cockpit displays.
As for battery life on the mini, I’ve had it for 3 years, and it definitely doesn’t have long battery life compared to when it was new. Regardless of that, you can still set high graphics and still have a great experience flying. It does not overheat (unless you’re using it in a warm environment). No lag or stutters at all. I recommend that you use AutoPilot+ for long hauls and overnight flights, because the iPad mini will definitely not last more than 8 hours without a charger and with the sim at high settings.
