Interesting Departure and Arrival Airports

Hey IFC

I want to make a list of the best airports to arrive and depart. Can you please write below what airports you think that are a must see. These are airports that are busy, have a difficult/interesting approach, have a great landscape… you get the idea.

If anyone wants a look at the list, just PM me (once I have some responses obviously).

Thank you everyone.

I would say either KHSV, HAAB, KLMT, or KPDX.

A great and really cool departure is KSNA in Southern California. Very steep and you turn slightly left just after taking off and follow the Newport Back Bay out to the Pacific Ocean.

KHSV - Beautiful views of the mountains and rivers of North Alabama as you depart the 18’s.
HAAB - Hot and high airport with turns along mountainsides.
KLMT - Beautiful final descent, you can slip into a mountain side and swiftly descend down to the runway.
KPDX - Obviously, you can depart or land along the Columbia River Gorge! Beautiful trip.

KPDX is very interesting. It is a super fun approach:

You fly by the airport, fly along the river and turn on final with a lovely approach across the river.

Very fun to perform!

Say hello to my 2 friends!

  1. LIRQ (Florence, Italy)
This airport I have actually flown into on a E190 and left on an A318. You land on runway 5 always and always depart 23 because on an mountain off the end on 23. The runway is also only 5,100ft or so, thus, it makes for a cool approach.

  2. SEQM (Quito, Ecuador)
This airport has some cool approaches as mountains are far from limited. The scenery is just amazing.

KSAN probably, because as Wikipedia states,

The airport’s landing approach is well known for its close proximity to the skyscrapers of Downtown San Diego,[12] and can sometimes prove difficult to pilots for the relatively short usable landing area, steep descent angle over the crest of Banker’s Hill, and shifting wind currents just before landing.

KDCA (river vis)

Maybe give MDW a visit. The appr would take you right by the city (arriving from west) or over the Great Lake MI (arriving from south/East)!

EGLC because of the steep approach and the short runway.
