Intercepting localizer

Hi everyone please how do I get into the localizer correctly from this image I sent right here because on auto pilot the plane turns before reaching the supposed end of way point and then I end up being higher than the runway please explain to me guys

In this instance, you will need to disengage LNAV and vector yourself around so that you can intercept the localiser at a more reasonable angle.

From D065H I would turn off LNAV and turn north onto a downwind leg. Then once level with CI19 I would turn base and then onto intercept.

*Not completely to scale but it gives the idea.

Well is there another solution aside this ?

A couple options:

  • Add some waypoints in-between D065H and CI19.
  • Fly the ILS approach manually.

I can’t wait to be on the expert server sometimes those waypoint have high mountains

what do you mean by this?

The autotune to ILS means what ?

High terrains

if you use a flight planner like Simbrief you shouldn’t have any issues with terrain clearance.

As of 25.1, when you file an ILS approach in your flight plan, it will automatically tune that ILS to NAV 1, ready for you to use APPR, so you don’t have to go into the runway menu and set it yourself.

Hi, the AP clearly can’t turn infinitely fast upon reaching a waypoint to leave the waypoint precisely along the exit line: the AP has to lead the turn.

And for the intercept to the final course, the recommendation is no more than a 30 degree intercept angle. That means you have to design your approach such that you approach the intercept as close to that 30 degree angle as possible.

BennyBoy_Alpha’s diagram shows how you might lessen the severity of the final turn, to get more in keeping with the recommended 30 degree intercept angle.

So which means I have to edit the way points ?

The plane turns before reaching the end of the waypoint this is something I’ve seen to well and I end up higher than the runway

Well I’m speaking about using the waypoint to intercept the ils some waypoint are at a high place and i would end up being so close to the ground

Correct. Or just don’t use LNAV and do manual vectors.

So what you mean is I should use the waypoints around it ? Like edit the waypoints

That’s one option yes.

have you checked flight radar? Because the 65H point looks to out of place for an app even with terrains?

The tutorial recommendation (for using APPR, for example) is approach at about 3000AGL level altitude, and far out enough to intercept the glide slope from below (GS diamond descends toward you).

It’s best to practice a basic stable method, and then you can vary it a bit as you gain more experience.

this airport is FACT (Cape town) ?

This looks like the approach for FACT

Yes simbreif gave me runway 01
But on flightrader they use runway 19
