Infinite flight capping at 30fps

Device: iPad Air 2022
Operating system: iPadOS 26

This occurs in both the open beta and normal versions.

I’m not sure if it’s a bug or not, but I do think it’s something new (to me at least). When flying in airports with more complex scenery, my frame rate completely caps at 30FPS, and won’t go any higher. I’m aware that it’s normal for frame rate to drop in these environments, but previously it would only drop to about 45-50fps, whereas now its as if it’s being forced to cap at 30.

Please let me know if this is a bug, and if so how I can fix it!

Update: It happens in flight as well, but slightly differently. The fps creeps up to 60fps, hovers around there for a few seconds, then drops down to 30 again pretty quickly.

Is your device getting warm? Only time my IPad Air used to do this was when it got quite hot

Was reported in the beta:

I don’t think this is the same issue. Because my device can easily run 60fps in the beta, but its almost like it just decides to cap itself at 30fps

Not really no, its been much hotter before without having this issue

Anyone have any idea?

Your available GB of storage for downloading maybe? Or maybe u have too many tabs open in the background?

I don’t think it’s any of these. I’ve got over 14GB free of storage, and no tabs open with background app refresh turned off

Have you tried redownloading the app? I’ve had this issue before, I just downloaded the app again and restarted my device. (also make sure your device doesn’t have any outstanding updates). Hope this helps!

I’ll give that ago, thanks for your help!

This might be because of your device. My phone can limit FPS too if it’s overheated.

Update - the issue persists after redownloading the app. I’ve noticed it occurs mainly at airports, even small ones (such as Kos where I’ve just landed). The weird thing is though this never happened at all for me right until now

Pretty sure this is a bug, hope they will fix it on the next beta update
