Infinite Flight 25.2 FAQ + All WIP Photos (Scenery Only)

Hello community!

Update 25.2 is almost here. This update is a huge change to Infinite Flight’s core rendering engine, which has allowed a massive change in the simulator’s scenery, and is laying the foundation for amazing new updates to happen in the future. And people have been asking a lot of questions in regards to it. Here’s the official blog article for in depth details - Infinite Flight 25.2 - Bigger Than Ever

This topic is dedicated to answering the frequently asked questions about the update, and also compiling all the photos we have from the development team of this amazing new scenery. I figure this is a much better alternative than scrolling for ages through this topic - Infinite Flight 25.2 - Bigger Than Ever - to get the information you need. I will do my best to update this topic with other Q/As I find, and wouldn’t mind if any Regulars or Moderators stepped in to add what they need here! If you have any additional important questions that are not in here, or if I missed any photos, you can comment them down below.

This topic will only show screenshots of the new in-flight scenery, and not include photos of new liveries, or photos from the barebones 3D modeling system. (They may be included at a later time)

I am not part of the Infinite Flight staff or development team. All the information I’ve collected is from the topic linked above. ^^

This is the most exciting update in a long time, and trust me.. I cannot wait. Patience is a virtue though  Here’s to 25.2!

FAQ

Summary

Q: Why is the update taking so long/Why isn’t beta released yet?

A: The question everyone wants to know first, of course. The developers initially stated, while the update was still in development, that they were (keyword) aiming for a release in late October. Of course, you cannot give an exact release date while in development. This target was unfortunately missed due to memory and optimization issues.

As of 11/25, the devs have given an update on this matter in a single thread - Status of the Open Beta

As of 12/2, the most recent update by Laura states that her co-developer Philippe has almost, if not fully solved the memory issues.

Status of the Open Beta - #567 by Laura

There is still no exact date on when open beta should be released, however with the most recent update, it looks to be right around the corner.

Q: Will this update include dynamic lighting? (light reflections, illuminating lights, etc.)

A: No, not in this update. However, this update is laying the foundation for this to be possible in the future, whenever the devs decide to start working on it. That feature could not be possible before due to limitations of the old (current) rendering system.

Q: Will this update include volumetric clouds?

A: No. Once again, this update is a rework of the old rendering system, which will allow for this feature to be added in the future. This includes dynamic lighting, volumetric clouds, and potentially other things that we don’t know of yet. This update is raising the floor of what’s possible!

Q: Are these WIP photos exactly how things will look?

A: Since they’re WIP (work in progress) photos, how things look may change around slightly. This includes sky lighting, shadow intensity and other things. WIP photos are a very close overall idea of what to expect, but not final.

Q: Will this update include new satellite imagery?

A: No.

Q: Will this update have negative impacts on my device performance?

A: Schyllberg has answered this question here.

Q: How will Open Beta work?

A: Open Beta is looking to be a staged rollout, and there will be a limit to how many people can access it, as stated by Laura here -

As far as who gets access, it will be on a first come first serve basis, as stated by Schyllberg here -

Q: Is the A320/321NEO coming with this update?

A: No, those aircraft should be coming in the following updates though.

Q: Are there new liveries coming with this update?

A: So far the ones that have been confirmed are -

Wow I haven’t seen all of them and I did not know they are going to add a marshel robot on the top of the screen is there going to be a way to get rid of it or do you have to keep it up there

Oh that’s a good question! That photo is from Laura’s reply here and she didn’t give any other information on it - Infinite Flight 25.2 - Bigger than ever - #1851 by Laura

I would assume it only pops up when you’re turning into your gate, but I (and everyone else) honestly doesn’t know anything about exactly how that’s gonna work yet. @Airplanesarecool

It looks like the devs have given an official update on the progress of Open Beta, and have also given a beautiful new scenery screenshot, which I’ve edited into the topic.

There’s still no idea of when the update/beta should be released since they’re still ironing out memory issues. Until then, hopefully this thread can still serve as a FAQ database and a place where you can view all the screenshots they’ve given so far. :heart_hands:

(Also, I can’t tell if those are multi-layered clouds in that WIP photo :eyes:)

they definitely are !! they probably serve as a good “base” or starting point for when they actually work on volumetric clouds which should be fairly soon

Unfortunately we don’t know if multilayer clouds will come in 25.2 or 26.1

I’m glad you found it useful  Honestly I was bored and had nothing better to do, so I figured I’d get involved and do something a bit helpful

One question, will the rendering update affect legacy aircraft? (from the outside)

This looks like something straight out of MSFS

Thought this was the current rendering engine.

I hope so!

Look at the sunlight

not even close ngl… the current rendering engine doesnt have lighting that good like in the WIP (no backlash to the old renderer tho its still serving us well! )
