While I was approaching TJSJ, I noticed a significant difference between the distance from the airport shown in green, 7.9 NM and that one shown beneath in the dock panel, 15.6 nm, as can be seen in the picture. Shouldn’t both readings be the same?
From what I can tell, it appears that you may have selected a way point on the other side of TJSJ. Its a bit difficult to determine, but from what I can see, your flight plan goes past the airport before making a drop back to the field. The “Dist to Dest” takes into account all legs on your flight plan.
- 7.9nm is the distance you are away from the runway per say at TJSJ
- 8.3nm is the distance you are from the center of the airport (indicated by the blue airport icon with the green weather dot). This is the distance that appears on your screen under the airport identifier. In line with your artificial horizon.
- 15.6nm is the distance of remaining legs on your flight plan.
Hope this clears a few things up regarding these different numbers. They can be a bit confusing at first. Let us know if you have further questions.
Thank you very much, Matt. That explains it all. Have a wonderful day.
