Pretty nasty incident and some significant damage done. After all, a pelican is quite a big bird!
Pelicans are quite big! No wonder there was that much damage.
Hmm… How you can miss a Pelican I don’t know, but I hope all involved are alright and are doing well.
That is a nice hole in the leading edge. I’m glad everyone was okay, minus the poor pelican. How can you miss a pelican? How can the pelican miss that big aircraft? lol ;) I’m sure the flight crew had a good reason for climbing out to FL330 and 130nm away before turning back to Cape Town. Looking at that hole, I think I would have been inclined to make that call slightly sooner. But then again, I’m sure that some folks out there would have taken the chance and rode it out all the way.
The amount of birds in Caoe Town are amazing. Not surprised. Mango Airlines is one of my favorite airlines. The pilots are well trained and ready for the worst! But still very friendly.
Lol poor aircraft and poor bird. Pelicans are some big birdies and a hit on a 737 fuselage can’t be good for either.
A wonderful bird is the pelican, its beak can hold more than it’s bellycan!
Atleast it did not go into the engine! that would of been bad…
You would be surprised how quickly it would have happened, the crew would have had no time to react! And yes everyone (except the Pelican) was fine
Shows how weak aircraft wings are when they are struck. Pretty bad damage, I hope the bird is ok.
I’m not sure why they decided to head so far out. Maybe they were not aware of the damage or it didn’t present a particular threat until later into the flight? Who knows
@anon31652286 I can assure you the bird is most likely dead. Also @Pilotmaster2129 Give up on life, that joke is awful
