Inappropriate behavior

Why do higher grades, like 5/6, seem to think they can disregard the rules? I just witnessed a situation at EWR where a pilot landed on the wrong runway, in the wrong direction, without making any radio calls. Not only that, but he didn’t have all his lights on, and despite seeing me land on the correct runway, he continued coming toward me and landed in the opposite direction. It’s frustrating to see this, especially as a Grade 3, and it feels unfair to those of us who are trying to follow the rules, especially when it seems like some higher grades disregard customs and regulations. While this doesn’t apply to everyone, it’s clear there’s a pattern of rule-breaking among certain higher grades. How can I report incidents like this? They don’t have a community profile, just an identifier.

I assume this was at an uncontrolled airport at the time? Thete should be a rule that allows us IFATCs to report such behaviors, maybe by video evidence or replays. Some people unfortunately do abuse and take advantage when therr’s no ATC active

What makes a runway a “correct runway” when ATC nor ATIS is present? A green runway does not mean it’s the correct runway.

I’ve been saying this in multiple posts and it seems there is always a constant misunderstanding that the runway that “I am using” is the correct one.

This applies to radio calls on UNICOM as well. Though it is encouraged at non-staffed airports, it is not required.

To add on, unfortunately grade does not equal professionalism. I’ve seen plenty of Grade 5s disregard the rules, and Grade 1s be very professional and courteous.

While not specific to this post, if there were majority of aircrafts using a certain runway direction then a random guy using the opposite then yeah I would consider it “wrong” direction. But then again, situational awareness is expected from both pilots in this situations here. If one is already landed or lining up, maybe the one in the air should reconsider and maybe do a GA instead of just land straight into another aircraft

Also I base the runway off of real air traffic conditions too. For example if 22L is the arrival runway in real life at the time. Why would you land 4R? And also in EWR 22R/4L is closed and will be for awhile. He landed on 4L which is never an arrival runway and is closed and will be for awhile.

Great that you’re bringing attention to this @jersey.spotter, it’s an important issue for many in the community. Just for reference, a similar discussion is happening here:
The Expert Server is lacking expertise - let’s fix that. It could be helpful to continue the discussion there to keep related ideas in one place.

It would depend what server it was @jersey.spotter. Unfortunately in Training there’s nothing that can be done unless staff witness it. In Casual well that’s meant for chaos. However if in expert just don’t worry if an IFATC Member or Staff Member notices them doing that then they will take care of them by issueing a violation.

Is it NOTAM’d in game? How would the pilot otherwise know it’s closed?

For example here:

As there is currently no rule in IF regarding runway usage, most players here would not know what runway is actually in use IRL. And many would assume “ah, its green, lets go with that”…

I’d just say use common sense and avoid collision, even if the other player is non-courteous (in ES). For CS and TS it’s a free for all, so don’t even bother

It’s not NOTAM’d.. so the casual gamer or average Joe wouldn’t know…

You’d basically need to do some research, if for instance you are really in to realism.

Well it’s to simulate the real world.

What I always assume is these type of grade 4/5 players have built their way up playing unrealistically. So as @BennyBoy_Alpha said, grade doesn’t mean professionalism but is always expected…

No radio calls, landed with another aircraft on the runway rolling towards him & didn’t go around.

The guys frustration is valid. I feel for you.

Don’t know why replies have been arguing about runway direction XD He made it all very clear in the first post

Oh.. and no lights. Let’s stop xD

Jokes aside, how I try to turn the frustration into a positive, is ensuring I respond to the non-realism in a realistic way & avoid an incident. Also good practise.

You were situationally aware & knew exactly what he was going to do unfortunately, I’d have cancelled my approach early, re-establish, whilst you let him land & get out of the way & then come in to land.

Annoying I know, but I find I’m usually the one to yield & it can turn out to be very satisfying when you deal with it in a realistic way that avoids any ‘simulated incident’

I have noticed that many NOTAMs irl are not displayed in-game and I do understand the frustration. I’ve also noticed that the NOTAMs that are in the game are indefinite (such as aircraft restrictions) rather than a temporary runway closure.

An outdated NOTAM that I also found was in Addis Ababa (HAAB) 07L/25R is now used as a regular runway rather than a taxiway.

Let me make one thing straight, yes it sucks, pilots on IF do this sometimes, but we need to stop being so worked up abt it, if you were in danger of collision, you should have just went around and be the smarter pilot, because there is absolutely nothing anyone can do abt it, so I say lets stop creating topics like this and just move on, it happens unfortunately even in the Expert server, the best thing to do is ignore it and go around and just accept that things like this happen.

As a pilot you should always make the safer decision no matter what other ppl around us do, theres nothing we can do to prevent stuff like this from happening.

It also virtual and not gonna kill your plane or passengers lol

true but we have ppl who r complaining about someone else using the wrong runway, so if we are talking realism, thats how the situation is
