The Ilyushin IL-62 was a Russian long-haul jet aircraft designed by Ilyushin and manufactured by Kazan Aircraft Product Association. It was a T-tail airliner with four fuselage mounted engines.
The aircraft was first put into service in the 1960s with Aeroflot, but soon expanded to encompass more airlines.
It was one of the safest airliners, having only a few fatal crashes, and between 1989 and 2009 had no fatal crashes.
The last IL-62 was built in 1999, however, an additional aircraft was built in 2009 using leftover parts. A total of 292 were built, making the IL-62 a large success. These old aircraft are still operated by Air Koryo and other governments around the world. Many airlines operated the IL-62 during its 40 year run.
