ILS/Nav1 Issue

iPhone 15.
iOS 18
IF Version 24.4 w/Hotfix.

Hi all,

Tried to set up for the ILS for Rwy 25 at EGVN; but the system would only allow me to set the 07 ILS as Nav1. Went around and tried to set up again but IF would only accommodate the 07 ILS again. Had a look at FAQ’s but couldn’t find anything specific; please let me know if I’ve missed it.

Not too sure whether it is a one off or anyone else has experienced it? Hasn’t happened previously, but I’ve not flown for a few days.

I can replicate this issue.

Device: iPhone 16 Plus
OS: iOS 18.2
Version: 24.4.2

Looks like it’s a known issue:

I of course get the same result.

A kind of temporary workaround I just used (not perfect but it worked, in very low visibility):

Leave the ILS set for Rwy 07 (even though you are landing Rwy 25 at EGVN), but set an altitude or two for VNAV to approximately track the glideslope (I used near airport elevation for a final fix at the airport center).

Then track the localizer manually by keeping LNAV set to Nav1 (as tuned to Rwy 07 ILS).

The localizer needle then deflects properly even though you are reverse tracking.

So, you can maintain localizer tracking manually with pretty good precision, as VNAV takes care of your manually set Rwy 25 glideslope while ignoring the glideslope for Rwy 07.

You still get all the ILS localizer precision: I came out of the clouds with the threshold right in front of me (tested twice).

Thank you for the report!

I just tested this myself and could confirm that, while selecting and tuning the RWY 25 ILS to NAV 1 does give a green “NAV 1” marker to the 07 ILS instead, the aircraft follows the ILS for 25, after all.

If you look at the HUD view, or NAV → NAV 1 (top left corner of the little window), you’ll see that “IBZB” is tuned - which is the identifier for the RWY 25 ILS at EGVN. If it were the RWY 07 ILS that’s tuned, it’d show “IBZA” instead.

So, to sum up, tuning into the desired RWY end’s ILS does work properly, it’s simply not displayed as intended on the runway menu on the map.

I’m glad you checked that. I hadn’t noticed the change between IBZB and IBZA. I had tried to fly the approach and assumed my failure to capture the glide slope meant I was still tuned to the 07 ILS. The arrow definitely flips directions when you toggle between the selections (emphasizing what you found, and contrary to the selection shown on the map). So, I was likely flying the back course (memory was arrow was pointing aft). I still failed to capture the GS on a subsequent 3rd attempt (arrow pointed forward with IBZB tuned), but I must have done something wrong. I’ll check again when I get time (but I assume the GS is there). Thanks for the follow-up.

The Localizers using the same frequency in real world.

While IF puts the label on the tuned frequency it will put it on the first found which is 07.
But the ILS for 25 still works.
It is just the label that’s wrong.
