IFATC at Home - Scotland [CLOSED]

Hello IFC!

With the great news of Sunday’s instalment in the IFATC at Home series, myself, @ThomasR & @Scott.Paddon would like to invite you all to our home country - beautiful (but not always sunny) Scotland.

Scotland is a fantastic country for general and commercial aviation alike, with our busiest airports taking you all over the world, from Dubai, to Toronto and everywhere in between. Inverness (EGPE) is my home town, and Glasgow (EGPF) is where I currently stay, so I will attempt to split my efforts between both. Thomas plans to open Glasgow Prestwick (EGPK) and Scott plans to open Edinburgh (EGPH) at various points in the day as well.

To avoid the splitting of traffic in Glasgow, when Prestwick is open, Glasgow will remain closed, and vice versa. Instead, when Thomas opens Prestwick, I will open Inverness, as it is only a short flight between the two, and you get to take in both Glencoe and the Great Glen, some of the most beautiful scenery in Scotland.

Glasgow and Edinburgh will open at the same time, as it’s possible to have full coverage between the two without radar, and can be a fun short hop for those who don’t have much time on their hands.

Airport control times!
Glasgow:2020-06-21T15:30:00Z2020-06-21T17:00:00Z (with a possible earlier session)
Prestwick: 2020-06-21T15:30:00Z2020-06-21T16:30:00Z
Edinburgh: Evening/night
Inverness: 2020-06-21T19:00:00Z2020-06-21T20:30:00Z (again, with a possible earlier session)

If any other Scottish IFATC members wish to get involved shoot me a PM!

Airport specific procedures & Destinations

Glasgow

There are no specific procedures that need to be noted for Glasgow, however we will post preferred SID’s and STAR’s here on the day.

Additionally, charts can be found here: https://vau.aero/navdb/chart/EGPF.pdf

Edinburgh

Prestwick

There are no specific procedures that need to be noted for Prestwick, however we will post preferred SID’s and STAR’s here on the day.

Additionally, charts can be found here: https://vau.aero/navdb/chart/EGPK.pdf

Inverness

There are no SID’s at Inverness, however most southbound departures proceed direct to DAVOT, then continue to their destinations. All approaches to runway 23 overfly the INS VOR at 4000 ft, then do not descend further than 2400 ft until 5 nm DME due to active military firing.

Runway 11/29 is generally out of use and is used as a taxiway, as the taxiway on the west of the airport is too narrow and disused. Aircraft taxiing from the terminal to RWY 23 taxi to 11, taxi along the runway then backtaxi ready for departure, and aircraft landing on 05 do the same but in reverse.

Hi I couldn’t see a time when this is happening. An approximate would be good if anybody in the thread knows. Thanks in advance!

Could anyone pm me the times?

Hi @Alan_Thomson @SPEEDBIRD101, as far as I’m aware, Scott will be controlling Edinburgh in the evening/night time, and I’ll put mine and Thomas’ times in the thread

It’s very windy here this morning but maybe it will settle by the time our very own ATC come on line. Choose your aircraft carefully If it’s windy . Scotswahae! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
