IFATC At Home - Belgium [EBBR/EBLG Open @ 2100Z-2300Z]

Hello Infinite Flight Community!

In the run-up to Sunday’s “IFATC At Home”, the Belgian IFATC Community decided to combine their forces to give you, as pilot, the possibility to fly from the six biggest airports in Belgium with high-quality Air Traffic Control! Of course, all non-Belgian IFATC members are absolutely welcome to control in the Brussels FIR!

Belgium, officially the Kingdom of Belgium , is a country in Western Europe. It is bordered by the Netherlands to the north, Germany to the east, Luxembourg to the southeast, France to the southwest, and the North Sea to the northwest. It covers an area of 30,689 km2 and has a population of more than 11.5 million, making it the 22nd most densely country in the world and the 6th most densely populated country in Europe, with a density of 376 per square kilometre. The capital and largest city is Brussels [EBBR]; other major cities are Antwerp [EBAW], Ghent, Charleroi [EBCI] and Liège [EBLG].

The Belgian Airspace has 6 major airports (ELLX not counted). Brussels [EBBR] and Charleroi [EBCI] are mostly commercial, Liège [EBLG] is mostly freight - with a lot of B747 traffic, Kortrijk [EBKT], Oostende [EBOS] (charter and business) and Antwerpen [EBAW] are mostly for GA Traffic.
All these airports are, geographically speaking, placed in the middle of four of the biggest airports in Europe, namely Amsterdam [EHAM], Frankfurt [EDDF], Paris [LFPG] and London [EGLL].
Short, 1-hour hops are thus easily acheavable to fly to very big airspaces.

Brussels Airport (EBBR)

Brussels Airport [BRU/EBBR] (also called Brussel-Nationaal or Luchthaven Zaventem) is an international airport northeast of Brussels, the capital of Belgium. In 2019, more than 26 million passengers arrived or departed at Brussels Airport, making it the 24th busiest airport in Europe. It is located in the municipality of Zaventem in the Province of Flemish Brabant in the Flemish Region of Belgium. It is home to around 260 companies, together directly employing 20,000 people and serves as the home base for Brussels Airlines and TUI fly Belgium.

Liège Airport (EBLG)

Liege Airport (LGE/EBLG), previously called Liege-Bierset, is an international airport located 5 nautical miles west of the City of Liège in the Province of Liège in Wallonia, mainly focusing on air freight. At the end of 2018, it was the 7th biggest cargo airport in Europe and the 22nd biggest in the world.

Liège Airport operates a lot of B747 flights, and is home for many Freighter airlines such as; ASL Airlines Belgium, CAL Cargo Air Lines, Ethiopian Cargo and Qatar Airways Cargo.

Brussels South Charleroi (EBCI)

Brussels South Charleroi Airport [CRL/EBCI] (also unofficially called Brussels-Charleroi Airport, Charleroi Airport or rarely Gosselies Airport), is an international airport, located in Gosselies, a part of the city of Charleroi in the Province of Hainaut in Wallonia. The airport is 4 nautical miles north of Charleroi and 28 nautical miles south of central Brussels. In terms of passengers and aircraft movements, it is the second busiest airport in Belgium having served 7,303,720 passengers in 2016. It is also a busy general aviation airfield, being home to 3 flying schools.

Brussels South Charleroi mostly operates the airlines; Ryanair, TuiFly and the unfamous Air Belgium.

Antwerpen-Deurne Airport (EBAW)

Antwerp International Airport (ANR/EBAW) is a small international airport serving the City of Antwerp in the Province of Antwerp in the Flemish Region of Belgium. Located 2.9 nautical miles south of the city, it is used for some scheduled and charter flights as well as business and general aviation and served 273,130 passengers in 2017.

Air Antwerp recently started to fly from Antwerp with daily operations to London City.

Ostend–Bruges International Airport (EBOS)

Ostend–Bruges International Airport (OST/EBOS), commonly known simply as Ostend Airport, is an international airport located 2.7 nautical miles southwest of Ostend in the Flemish Region of Belgium, near the coast and about 25 km (16 mi) from the city centre of Bruges. Although freight transport is the focus of a large proportion of its activities, the airport is increasingly used for passenger flights, mainly charter and holiday flights organised by tour operators. It is also often used for private business flights.

Flanders International Airport (EBKT)

Flanders International Airport [KJK/EBKT] (or Flanders Airport) is an airport located in the town of Wevelgem, West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium and partly also in the Bissegem section of the city of Kortrijk.
