Any suggestions for an ideal IF general aviation (or small airliner) tour or two of Colorado’s diverse and mountainous landscape, including perhaps surrounding high desert areas?
I’m sitting here in the mountains kind of cross thinking some road trips with an IF deeper dive into the region.
Contact @ phorza sky and @ United403. For Colorado you should contact @A320_Flyerboy19. They would have an excellent idea of the area. Sorry I am not familiar with the area.
I love to use the TBM-930 for my Colorado flights.
My touring usually starts from KAPA-KCOS-KGUC-KDRO-KCEZ-KTEX-KGJT-KEGE-KASE-KSBS-KFNL-KAPA.
This is my favorite Colorado tour! You get to see the mountains and all the beauty of the rivers, Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Eagle/Vail, Aspen, and all the way up to the Yampa Valley!
Thanks. I’ll check all those out. It’s funny how exploring on the ground makes one pay attention to each and every airport and airstip, making mental notes for future IF routes that for sure will get done… Currently around Copper mountain…
Oh I love the silverthorne, Frisco, Dillion, Breckenridge area. It’s where I spend 99% of my weekends skiing and love flying around there in IF. brilliant to see what it looks like close to the ground and not in an airliner.
Today, I have to admit, after all the IF approaches (and some missed approaches) and departures into and out of Aspen with different aircraft over the years, I was pretty thilled to drive into the airport irl on an unexpected whim (thanks to a kindly patient family member).
Memories of some excessively “low energy” departures, on occasion, had me inspecting the hills and escape paths at the departure end of Aspen pretty closely. I was obsessing about the approach end just as much (speed control on the descent).
