IF hubs for planes

I thought of putting this question into a different recent post, but figured it might be better here. The airports that are identified as hubs in real life, are they also operated as hubs in IF (to the extent that they serve a similar purpose), or are they just busy due to popular locations and thus the heavy plane traffic? :thinking:

HUBs in Infinite Flight are basically just featured airports that IFATC will be controlling, and as a result of the airports being under IFATC control tend to be much busier.

Adding to what @AirPain said, there are also just a few airports in IF which are “permanent” hubs, like LAX, JFK, London Heathrow, Dubai, Sydney, Tokyo Haneda, Incheon, and Paris Charles de Gaulle, just to name the most popular. This is for several reasons.

First, they are popular because IRL, many routes are flown from each, causing them to be hubs for those flying realistic routes, which is a majority of users on the ES. Then, because they are popular with pilots, they become popular with IFATC, which in turn draws in more pilots. For instance, Heathrow and LAX are staffed almost every day. Not all day, but there’s a good chance when you load in that ATC will be present. And so the cycle goes, such that those airports tend to always have several in and outbound aircraft, if not up to a hundred or more.

That makes sense to me. So, to simulate the realism of flying in “as if” a busy passenger arrival/departure point, these airports tend to be busy in IF as well, as a simulation to that experience. I appreciate that additional detail Petre. :grinning_face:

Something I recently found (even through the free side of the IF app), is that there are a lot of landing strips and other kinds of airports (these pink triangle icons I see everywhere). The airport code often comes up as unknown - ex. L35. But when I put it into a search site like AirNav.com, it comes up with more detail. In this case, it turned out to be something called Big Bear City Airport, in Big Bear City, CA. Its a real thing apparently. Some of these are hard to guess what might be thought of as a hub and what isn’t (except for the really big airports).
