Icelandair Innaugural Flight to Philadelphia (and diversion)

This was very exciting for me

Yesterday evening the first flight from Reykjavik, Iceland landed at Philadelphia International around 7pm EST. This is going to be a seasonal service starting May 31 - September 20 and flies four times a week. FI829 KEF-PHL and FI828 PHL-KEF. They used a Boeing 757-200 and in the ‘80 years of Aviation’ livery.

Onto the diversion
As the return flight left PHL, it was over Canada and there were reports on board of a rubber smell. It safely landed at Boston Logan.

That livery though is amazing, if you get to spot that then you’re extremely lucky

Good they used their anniversary livery in this great event. Congratulations for both KPHL and Icelandair, reinforcing aerial connectivity between Iceland and the USA.

Here she is:

Unsure if it’s leaving now, but it is on the move.

Edit: It’s on the holding pad by runway 32 now (near the bottom right corner of the screenshot). Must’ve been moved to make more hard stand space for the other airlines but again, I’m still not sure.

Edit 2: She’s officially enroute to her home in Iceland after a short stay in Boston.

Went spotting to today, and saw it depart. They started using 27R which is closer to see planes depart and arrive, instead of using 27L because of a runway sweep
