Seeing callsigns on the map, that are long, force you to zoom in or out to see something, or even inaccurate - like an cessna with a super prefix, is quite annoying. However, seeing those same planes with proper icao codes - STW827, TUI28GA, AFR82 - is way more realistic and sound. Does anyone here ever thought about it, requested it, or..?
As long as itâs not inappropriate - itâs fine. It would just get complicated (and probably buggy) if the staff start adding all these conditional triggers for whether a callsign is allowed.
I meant not callsign allowed or not, but switching from callsigns to icao codes, and use callsigns for actual radio purposes.
Oh you mean that the ICAO flight number appears underneath the aircraft on the map instead of the spoken callsign (like on FR24)?
Exactly. Yea, way more realistic and understandable. Also helps instantly recognizing airlines, since some airlines have uh.. weird and unrelated sometimes. While might be difficult for less known airlines, still - it is a good feature.
I see why we need this - I hate when some Cessna uses like âSpirit 32 Heavyâ. I would vote for these regulations. Personally I always use OK-DCA as thatâs my âsignatureâ and I know many others to that.
Honestly, even completely not allow choosing prefixes, but automatically assigning them to proper aircrafts - A380 super, widebodies heavy, is a great idea alongside proper ICAO codes.
What you all think?
No idea where request features
You are only TL1, so you canât create Features requests at the moment. It requires TL2.
Can you or someone else request please?
Iâm not a big fan of that simply because there are too many side cases where a different callsign might be applicable. Also, itâs a sim. Even MSFS doesnât have these kinds of restrictions.
As long as itâs appropriate - I think people should be free to choose whatever callsign they want. But thatâs not the purpose of this topic - which is about how the callsign is displayed on the map.
Other than the case of âFlight of Xâ and how to classify the 757, I donât really see any corner cases of an auto-applied suffix, and those donât seem like any big issues to deal with.
Not a fair comparison. Infinite Flight makes all aircraft in-house, so they know all the coding that goes into them. Adding a few extra lines of code to specify if itâs a heavy, super or no suffix should be fairly straightforward. MSFS, on the other hand, essentially relies on third-party aircraft, and that bit of coding is probably a lot more complicated to integrate with its callsign system.
Lads, return to the topic please. As I said, ICAO codes on map are way more realistic. Even if this is not msfs, then we have to limit how good the sim is? I donât think so.
Msfs doesnât has something like live. Msfs doesnât has high focus on systems and such things. ICAO codes are way more realistic, and just keep callsigns for actual radio purposes, instead of seeing that obfuscated spirit 22 super callsign on a A321NEO.
Please use Features for feature requests. ![]()
