I remember when…. “I Crashed”😮‍💨

I’ve not posted a topic for a very long time & I’m feeling in a confessional mood today😀 so… I’d thought share the embarrassing occasions(very few thankfully) where I’ve had an ‘unfortunate incident’ as a pilot on the Expert server.

Dare to admit yours? 👀

Formatted as below:

What happened: Stall spun a Dash Q400 on approach into either Amarillo or Lubbock TX, with only a few thousand feet to work with. I had only time to say “oh no” before impact. It’s actually scary how quickly it went south from such a normal approach.

Cause: Selected flaps 35 instead of 15 & the plane quickly hit that deadly angle of attack & I was slow in responding🙈

What happened: Could not maintain altitude upon takeoff from the centre RWY at KSEA in a C208 Caravan & eventually sunk & crashed(or had an emergency landing on buildings like a boss 😌)

Cause: Rotated way too early with a 98% load & just could not build enough airspeed😮‍💨

What happened: In the Dash Q400 again, this time a PAL Express flight from some little island due back to Cebu City in the Philippines. The takeoff roll did not generate enough speed on an elevated RWY & we got airborne only at the very end. Unfortunately, there was a big wedge of terrain at the end requiring a few hundred feet to clear it. Bang!!!

Cause: Using insufficient flaps(in this case 5 instead of 10), miscalculation of thrust level for the short elevated RWY & the significantly early point of rotation required to clear the terrain at the end.
BUT far worse, was the fact I knew it didn’t feel right and didn’t simply reject the takeoff like an idiot 🙈

What happened: Strangely, I’ve actually ran out of fuel twice flying a C208 Caravan in the Welsh valleys. The first time I was lucky & found flat land to perform a successful emergency landing. The second time, I landed where I could & it unfortunately turned out to be hilly terrain & I bounced, flipped & crashed.

Cause: Forgetting to refuel the plane, badly maintaining airspeed & altitude, lack of spacial awareness to have got headed in a better direction or to have found a better emergency landing location. 😒

And the most embarrassing yet…. 🙈

What happened: Very first leg of the IF World Tour at a packed(and I mean server crashing packed) Heathrow airport, ready to depart in my B757. When I did my takeoff roll it went super laggy & when I rotated NOTHING HAPPENED 😳. I then embarrassingly barrel rolled in front of everyone(including Dan) & headed into some buildings(I actually think I quit the flight before impact 😭)

Cause: Well haha. The server crashed at that very moment, so it was not pilot error on this occasion. Let’s call it a mechanical failure on this one👌🏻

And finally(I forgot about this one)…😮‍💨

I’ll leave this one to the imagination, but let’s just say when you are fly into airports in Columbia & Ecuador, NEVER deviate from STARs & approach plates!!! 🛬🗻👀

Thanks for reading 🫡

One time I was landing a 747 after a 7 hour flight and descended too fast and didn’t want to go around and I landed on the runway at 180 knots I then cartwheeled and hit a few aircrafts before spinning into a terminal

Cause: Miscalculated the altitude of the approach

Got the landing stat & came to rest right at your gate? Like a boss xD

Yeah right 😂

And just for fun, I’ll say my opinion on it Dan Gryder style 🫡

Cause: (in bad Gryder impression) “I’d say more like ‘get there-itis’ & not initiating a go-around like he should have the knucklehead” 😅

Here I tell you my most recent crash:

What happened: I flew at 500ft MSL, missed the approach, and slam into a mountain near Athens (LGAV).

Cause: It was almost 2AM in my place. I tried to keep my eyes open until about 8000ft MSL or so, then I fell asleep. Luckily, I got no violation since I managed to reduce my speed to 250kts.

Asleep at the yoke…. Wow 🙈😅

back when i first joined IF, i would always crash. probably because my landing speed was 280 knots. this was on solo so i don’t know if i counts

another time, i was on the expert. i was arriving into vienna and i overshoot the airport bc i overslept. instead of doing circles in my 787, i decided to nosedive. i think my highest rod was like 30000ft. i thought i crashed but i didn’t. i made it to the gate and de boarded my 200 pax. i bet they enjoyed my flights!

Yikes!!! You have a very very serious case of ‘get there-itis’ I don’t think there’s meds strong enough for that one 🛩️😮‍💨😅

And don’t worry, at that ROD the 200 pax would have blacked out & woke up at the gate 👌🏻😌

Good job 🫡

I actually thought I’d crashed 1/2 times until I made this topic 😮‍💨

I was using VNAV until about a few miles before the runway where lies a waypoint set at the altitude of 500ft

My only time was when I was flying with @Anshul and @Dan. We did a flight between Bangkok and Paro. I had basically messed up the approach and came in wayyyy to high. And how did I conquer it? Well, I nosed dived. This now meant I was wayyyy to fast but I was determined. I touchdown at the very beginning of the runway and applied full reverses, and tried to stop as fast as I could, but to no avail I ran off the end of the runway 😂

They’ll remember this. I’m pretty sure Anshul crashed too? And Dan just landed it like a boss, as he does every time…😂

I’ve only crashed twice

I pulled an Asiana 214 while trying to land at Melody Ranch (WY31) in a challenger 350

@Prestoni and @United403 remember this for sure

Last time was in February when I tried to take off in Bermuda with a heavy crosswind also on a CL35 and the wing dipped into the ground making me “crash”

This is why I don’t like the CL35 a ton

Can’t believe you just did me like that 🥲…May or may not be true though 🤐

Eeeeeh I think it’s true 😂
