The easiest way to remember is to turn strobes on when crossing or about to cross the hold short line. Do not use strobes for strictly taxi operations unless your back taxing or taxing on a runway.
Youâre right itâs just a game. I certainly donât mind if IF pilots want to keep them on through out the game.
However, some IF pilots are more discipline to aviation regulations and want to apply those regulations when flying.

Thanks for all the advise here. Never knew before when to use the strobes correctl but will try and use correctly moving forward. Every bit of realism makes it more fun!
Advanced Server: Serious pilots fly there.
Thatâs what it says in the game.
Does that mean you only expect people who hold ATPL or maybe just a PPL to fly on the advanced serverâŚ? A lot of the times I donât even see the lights on the other aircraftâŚmaybe thatâs the settings I just use.
I just said that serious pilots fly there. It would be appreciated if we fly as realistic as possible. You can of course use strobes when pushing back.
Thatâs why I like these forums, always learning new things, either how to fly or procedures.
Lights summary, please correct me if I am wrong as I had to check a few different threads.
Nav Lights
- On while the engine is on
Landing Lights
- On when lining up for takeoff
- On while flying under 10,000
- Off over 10,000
- Off when parked at the gate
Strobe Lights
- On when crossing runways
- On when on an active runway (lined up, landing, etc)
- On while flying
- Off after exiting runway after landing
Beacon Lights
- On while engine is on
The only thing I would change is:
Landing Lights
- On when lining up for takeoff
- On while flying under 10,000
- Off over 10,000
- Off when parked at the gate
You donât taxi with landing lights on.
Thanks, I made that update. I thought I read we can taxi with them on since we only have one button for landing lights.
Yes, I guess this is an issue on IF as we donât have taxi lights. I was probably giving you a real life answer but you could argue it both ways in IF. Personally I donât taxi with them on in IF, but thatâs just me.
Umm hi guys,
Iâm not completely sure of I got that right - do you and if yes when do you turn off your strobes after takeoff. Hope you can help me
Thx
Jasper
You put them on when entering the runway and they stay on during the whole flight. They come off when you are exiting the runway after landing.
Thank you - helped me a lot
TOTALLY agreed. Especially with a sometimes laggy iPad.
Looks like people are taking this more and more serious on advanced! Good job keep it going.
In the future versions, maybe we can pushback and then start the engines. Turn nav lights on before pushback, turn beacon lights on before taxi, and it would be great if we have logo light.
Iâve been promoting Logo Lights for a long time now. I really hope we see them soon, I guess itâs not that hard to realise. Engine startup/shutdown would be even more amazing.
I think the lights next to the end of the rwy(I donât know the name)help a lot when I do a visual approach. It indicates whether Iâm on the glide slope, too high or too low. Lights mean a lot in flying.
They actually exist already - theyâre just hard to see. Zoom in on final and you will see 2 lights in the left of the runway (yes 2, not 4)
