How to use and what are Sid and Stars?

I don’t know what sids and stars are and how thy help pilots. Can anyone please help me?

SIDS are departure paths for when departing an airport. STARS are arrival procedures. (Example, EAGLE6 Arrival. (Not a real arrival star)
