As you all know, with the global pandemic going on, there is a rather noticeable increase in traffic on the live servers, and along with that I’ve seen many people not trusting themselves from both the pilot and controller side.
There are many newcomers, and sometimes, yes sometimes, I’ve seen people discouraging and making fun of each other, which is, in my opinion, is really bad.
Trusting your self is really important especially when we are in a world where mistakes can happen, most people are here to have fun and be positive, if this was not the case, this community will be ruined from the start!
How to trust in your self
Everyone makes mistakes, whether by messing up a landing, or even by sending a wrong command. Most of the time we can correct such mistakes with a simple reminder or explanations, however, sometimes people get afraid, mad, or even quit their flight!
Keep in mind that reports, known as ghosts, and violations in 20.1, are made so people can learn from their mistakes, and to make the experience enjoyable for others, while following simple rules.
They are not made for the purpose of making you mad, sad, or even to prove that you’re wrong!
This community is made to help others, enjoy with each other, along with many other purposes like buttering, greasing, etc…
Try as best as you can to explain and resolve problems, not cause more conflict and arguments, and give the other side an opportunity to reply in a kind and with manners. Try to reach common ground, keep it cool! And if things are getting out of hand, just add a moderator, believe it or not, it’s simple as that! You don’t need to ruin your day because of stupid things!
Trusting your self as a controller
While IFATC are expected to provide a high-quality server while enforcing rules, but sometimes I see people saying that they aren’t good enough, and they are a disappointment for the team, this is absolutely false, although IFATC are expected to know their LIMITS, sometimes they stress it out way too much, and it’s not needed! We all learn, but the problem is that when you are repeating the same issue again and again, in that case you probably should look after it so you can know the root cause of this issue and you must eliminate it.
Additionally, senior specialists, officers, or even supervisors should be patient with newcomers who may be unfamiliar with the rules at first, but in the end, they’ll probably turn out to be such great controllers!
Trusting your self as a pilot
Controllers are not the only ones who make mistakes on the expert server; pilots are a big cause of this problem too!
With that being said, you shouldn’t always be afraid, and quit your flight as soon as the controller says please follow instructions, check help pages etc… As an example, turn right heading 260, descent and maintain 6000, some pilots follow the heading part, but completely forget/ ignore the 2nd part of the command, in such case, controllers can’t say yo dude please descend to 6000, however, we can say follow instructions, or check help pages etc…
You can always join the great IFATC team here, so you can understand how we work, while helping out!
Another way that you can learn, is by checking the #tutorials category!
The exact opposite of trusting your self, overtrusting usually causes multiple issues, and it’s really something that should be avoided by all humans alike!
Self trusting is a really hard topic to talk about and explain, I tried my best here, the whole point of this topic is to make sure that you are not afraid of the expert server, and you shouldn’t quit your flight after 10+ long hours! As a reminder, the expert server is made so we can enjoy with a normal level of professionalism, I am sure many people in this community can help out, including me! I you want someone to talk with, or even if you have a couple of questions, please don’t hesitate to message me!
