Need help exiting runways after landing, what is the atrategy to not slowdown almost to a stop or over shooting exit
Pull down on rudder for brake
There are many factors involved (aircraft type, weight, runway length, taxiway access etc). A general rule of thumb is to not use reverse thrust under 60mph and to pull down on your rudder for breaking.
For more tips, I recommend the below post from @CPT_Colorado It’s an oldie but a goodie! Happy Landings!
So dont reverse and pull down rudder at the same time, which ive been doing? And also i use auto brake
Once you touch down, don’t use full reversers, as pilots rarely do it in real-world operations. (60 kts GS is the cutoff for reversers)
After that, auto-brakes will automatically slow the plane down (it varies how much, depending on setting).
The most realistic way of slowing down/braking in IF, is to pull down on the rudder, to apply gradual braking pressure. Try to avoid using parking brakes.
I will say this depends on the type of aircraft you’re flying. On the CRJ we always use maximum reverse. If the runway is long, then this means we can save wear and tear on the brakes by not needing to apply as much brake pressure.
