obviously the A380 has been out on the the game for some time now but ive still not got how to land this plane nicely. I’m just trying to land softly (less than 200fpm) and on the landing zone. everytime I attempt landing it at 140kts the nose drops so quickly just like the A320 and if I manage to pitch the nose up high enough before touchdown the plane ends up floating way past the landing zone.
Try arming the spoilers once all the wheels are on the ground. I tested the A320 once like that, and the nose touchdown was much smoother than with the spoilers armed before landing.
That’s something I never heard of before, as a huge A320 fan who still can’t get it to land properly without smashing the nose gear. This might be of some help to me.
My tip would be to keep the flare after you have touched down and let the plane itself loose momentum then it’ll naturally come down.
it’s the same problem as the A320, you’ll try to keep the nose up but it just naturally drops as soon as you touch down
Hi, for 140kts I assume you mean for the A380 (too fast for the A320?)?
Assuming you’re at a good airspeed, pitch the nose for your aiming point on the runway.
How much you can keep the pitch high vs lower will depend on your speed.
If you are at a set speed and you somewhat randomly pitch the nose higher, you will miss your aiming point and indeed float down the runway.
To keep the nose from dropping, carefully, and only, increase the pitch up pressure after your main wheels have touched.
You are not actually pitching up at that point but rather pulling your control back in the pitch up direction just enough to keep your nose wheel up and then gradually lowered, under your full control.
It’s very achievable for both the A380 and A320 to have complete nose down control after the main wheels have touched down.
But to practice the exact feel I would do repetitions with the short final option in solo mode (with no wind at first). Roughly keeping in mind:
1)maintain a reasonably correct forward speed
2)pitch for the aiming point on the runway
3)practice pull back pressure for nose lowering control, as distinct from the flair pull back, which happens right as the main gear touch down.
(note you are pulling back at first, and then easing off that pull back a bit to release the nose, while airspeed bleed off is competing against you to lower the nose on its own - you have to experiment a bit to find the right balance)
There is a transition point when the main wheels touch, where you become focused on your new range of control inputs to hold the nose wheel from going down on its own.
The above applies independent of any settings for wheel brakes, spoiler deploy etc. There will likely be a bit different feel though.
Yes, and more simply put, if your approach numbers and attitude control are about right, just practice pulling back a bit, after the mains make contact, and there is sufficient control leeway to lower the nose gently (whether autobrakes and auto spoiler deployment is on or off).
Check this :)
Also in rl the A380 lands hard , the average A380 landing is about -300 fpm is average for an A380 ( I think So)
Yeah. In particular go to about 6min 20seconds in the tutorial (just a bit after that is the nose wheel control comment).
