What is the best way to keep speed to lowest when on descent?
Use spoilers in FLIGHT mode and don’t descend too quickly. Many aircraft are quite “slippery” and struggle to slow down when descending at more than -1500-2000fpm.
What FPM would you say for descending VNAV
In the A380 - I wouldn’t exceed -2000fpm. Start slowing down to 250kts around 15000-17000ft.
That’s great! Thank you!
Also
Time: Give yourself sufficient time to descend. Err on the conservative side; more time means more options (descent rate safety margin).
Distance (the complement of time): Ensure you have enough horizontal distance to dissipate kinetic energy smoothly. Again, err conservatively.
