How to avoid overnight violations.

Hi everyone,
I’m interested in doing overnight flights, but I’m wondering if I’ll get a violation for not talking to ATC, lnav following waypoints, and vnav doing step climb while I’m sleeping.
Is there a way to avoid all this?

Thanks in advance

You won’t get violations from atc as long as you aren’t descending or ascending. So don’t turn on vnav.

Hello!

When you are at cruise, and if you are away, ATC will not report you. You may enter a controlled Centre airspace and be on guarded by the Centre controller, but as long as you are at cruise altitude, you won’t be reported, nor disturbed any more times. As a tip, do not activate VNAV while you are sleeping or away from your device in general. VNAV does not do Step Climbs but can descend your aircraft if you filed a lower altitude than the cruise one (i.e. a STAR/Approach). Descending with VNAV while you are away is a reportable action, or you can receive Level 1 violations too due to overspeeding.

So, to make it short: while at cruise you can’t be reported as long as you do not activate VNAV and start descending (= critical phases of the flight).

Let us know if you have any questions, thanks!

When away from your device, ATC will see an orange icon next to your flight strip meaning that you’re “away”. With this, any conflict will be assumed unintentional and you won’t be violated.

I don’t see how can get you a violation (?)

This can get you a violation. When away, you must keep your flight level. Otherwise the “away” icon I mentioned above isn’t valid.

That’s why you must be around your device during the entire climb, and entire descent.
