When should the approach clear me for ILS approach? When they tell me Exocet the ILS approach, what should I do if they never clear me, and how can I request clearance?
As far as I’ve know, all approach controller must cleared aircraft before the approach controller move you to Tower frequency.
You can request landing clearance after approach controller move you to Tower frequency. After that click "CALL INBOUND > ON THE ILS > choose the runway that approach controller cleared you to that runway.
If they don’t clear you, they don’t want you to intercept yet, or are too busy to get there quick enough because they are occupied with something else. Just be patient and continue under your current clearance. You’ll likely shoot through the localiser and be revectored for a second intercept.
If you’re close to the cone (red lines) they should clear you for the intercept. If not you can still give a „stand by“ if you feel they did forget you. But avoid to land without permission. This could end in a level3 violation.
That doesn’t really make sense. “Stand by” means “please wait for me to call you”, so why would you say that to them? You’re waiting for them, not the other way around.
In the rare circumstance that the controller completely forgets about your existence, I would say that sending a checking in call would make more sense than stand by.
Because it’s the only appropriate, available command to send a note to a controller. I would prefer this one.
Also fine, but some of the ATC will respond directly with: duplicate messages.
I don’t think so, usually, the controller will make notice of forgetting about said pilot and will know that the check in was just to remind them that they missed their approach clearance.
