As per the title, my question is how often is the satellite imagery updated?
I believe the most recent satellite imagery update was when South America was brought up to the 15m standard. I’m not sure if or how frequently existing satellite imagery is updated. There isn’t really much of a need to regularly update imagery as there are very few areas that would have a noticeable difference.
Not at all if you’re speaking of general updates to certain features in the satellite imagery. It’s way too awkward to put all the effort to do so in order to account for rather small differences if you could even see them. Getting any imagery in the first place was hard enough 👀
Yeah I understand but would there be any exceptions made? Like for example if a brand new airport was built, wouldn’t satellite imagery of that new airport be needed to create it in the sim?
No, Airport Editors use satellite imagery from sources outside of IF. For example, Istanbul’s new Airport is in game and 3D, however the satellite imagery in game is from before the airport was built.
All the imagery that is used to create airports has to come from external sources such as Google, Yandex, ArcGIS, or anything else that is possible to accurately georeference. Simply using the satellite imagery in-app at the current quality we have is just not possible to create anything accurate.
Ok thanks @Tsumia and @Elliot_003 for the answers!
Actually now you’ve mentioned it, I never even noticed that it isn’t the satellite imagery of the airport. It’s only now I can see the difference.
