With all the request for new liveries for aircraft, I started to wonder how much (typically) paint / weight does painting the aircraft add. I found this fairly comprehensive article from the boeing.com site. Nice chart that shows how much weight is added based on plane and scheme. Kinda nerdy, just thought it might be interesting to some. Happy flying!
These days they use a thing called foils. These are basically sheets of plastic with logos, pictures etc on them
That’s cool. Foils have got to be a lot lighter too i assume.
Yeah and it means airlines have more options for liveries :)
Looks like there is still a lot of painting going on as well for base coats and larger areas outside of lettering and special graphics. cool combination of each.
