I know how to use the ATIS but my question is, how long do I have to be on it exactly?
Long enough to get all the information you need about the airport (runways in use, winds, any recommended procedures, remarks about the field, etc.)
Then you can tune out of it and contact ground when ready to push
Oh ok thanks :)
A neat thing I like to do is note down ATIS info on a piece of paper, so you don’t mess up your transmissions later :) I also just turn it off as soon as I have heard everything because the voice annoys me.
You can just listen the first message and leave the ATIS after that. All information will be on the “chat” that u can access everytime just scrolling down.
You can also access the D-ATIS (which is the digital atis, it basically just gives it in text) by pressing on the airport and clicking WX. This Is especially useful when approaching an airport as the range is infinite and you don’t have to tune into an ATIS frequency while in an active airspace.
