How is 'pushing back without permission' not a violation

I have recently noticed that pushing back without ATC permission doesn’t get you a violation. Not even a level 2 violation? Does anyone know why this is? Or please correct me if im wrong and it actually is a violation… Thanks!

We will usually give the “taxi without permission” violation for this.

yeah for example 3 or 4 days ago this guy just pushed without clearance and I checked the violations list i only saw taxi without clearance, i didnt know what i was really supposed to do so i just let him be until he entered the runway without clearance. But yeah it would be nice if that vio was in the list.

Pushing back is sorta considered taxiing in a way - so it probably doesn’t need to be a separate reason.

right, yeah, true that

Since I avoid ifatc as much as possible I make this error when at a controlled airfield. I also try to select a starting point where I don’t need to pushback. At CYYZ I will usually start out at the air Georgian/FBO at North end of the airport as that is where I spent 20 years as a wrench working on 727, 1900c/d, citations, 757, A330 and various other aircraft. Even the odd DC-3 and mu-2b aka the widow maker.

Oh it does bite a bit 😉. Normal jets 8 don’t care will go in with ATC, but not fighter’s, I have to fly fast at all times, so now I stay on ts for fighters.

Yep my workplace has two parking positions beside it and the FBO. In that complex now is air Georgian, air Transat, FedEx, all Canada Express where I worked a few years, Magellan aerospace, hope Aero, and a few other’s with a few changes since I left. Side note is I got to meet many very interesting people, Trump, the stones, acdc, iron Maiden, George Bush and Bill Clinton plus others.

Whattt?? 😂😂
Thats Unbelievable. Why did those presidents come to the hangar anyway?

The biggest reason that this isnt usually an instant violation is because of what Levi said:

As IFATC we try to avoid issuing reports unless absolutely necessary, and we will always attempt to give a couple of warnings first at least before actually issuing a violation. Because pushing back without clearance is usually on first contact, first I will typically give the command “do not taxi without clearance”. Provided the pilot follows subsequent instructions, a violation is not usually warranted for such a small offense. If the pilot continues to disregard ATC instructions following that, then a report may come. The only instance this may be an instant violation is in the case that the airport is extremely busy, and the pilot pushes back directly into another aircraft, in which case they may be reported immediately for failure to maintain separation with another aircraft, or taxiing through others. When an airport is busy it can be more difficult to give multiple warnings due to high controller workload. Often times a simple “please follow instructions” will suffice though to let the pilot know a report may be issued if ATC commands are not followed.

Hope this helps explain it a bit!
