Hi there, I recently have had to perform a few Aborted Takeoff’s due to airplanes crossing the runway just after I begin the roll. I was wondering what was the procedure to perform an aborted takeoff and what is the correct selection to allow ATC to know of the incident?
I think there isn’t a button regarding Aborted Takeoff. But if ATC sees it, They will issue “Cancel Takeoff Clearance, Hold Position”. Most of the time ATC is the one who notice it (At least in Expert Server)
Regarding the procedures, I usually set my spoilers armed, full flaps, full reverse thrust and brakes to expedite my stop then leave to the nearest exit. Similar to landing’s 😉
Ok thank-you for your reply was just wondering have you had to ever abort a takeoff?
I have tried it twice when I’m in Training Server as some trolls land without permission. As far as I’m aware, Near ground collision is rare to happen in the server I currently use (Expert) 😉
I wouldn’t bother with full flaps. They don’t have that much of an effect on drag at such low speeds, and end up providing more lift, which makes the aircraft light on the wheels, which in turn reduces braking effectiveness. Everything else is right
In terms of what you do it is spoilers up, then full reversers and brakes.
Deploying full flaps is a waste of time, sure there may be some extra drag eventually but the effect at those speeds is marginal and by the time you stopped the flaps will still be moving anyway so won’t have got near a full position.
There isn’t an “abort takeoff” command yet. If you really want to see it in Infinite Flight, vote for the feature in the topic below.
Speaking of aborting takeoff, I suggest you to read the thread below. It is an awesome story!
Some first class controlling there for sure! Haha.
One of my best live experiences ever.
I’ve aborted a take off on expert once - I wasn’t accelerating properly and after I discovered my plane was set over MTOW, as I was testing something in solo and forgot to change it back. I don’t believe you can be ghosted for it unless you’re faking some kind of emergency
Full flaps?? No! RETRACT the flaps, to drop that lift. But don’t waste your time on it.
Ive had two aborted take off on controlled expert. Both in the same session. Was a busy day at KJFK so Tower didnt notice. The proper procedure spoilers armed, full reverse thrust and brakes, and exit to the nearest exit ramp. Contact Ground to request taxi to active runway.
I think the suggestion was to do full flaps for extra drag? Anyway I agree messing around with flaps on a rejected take off is a waste of time.
Ok yeah. I am not Grade 3 yet so still on TS1 and have had to perform many aborted takeoff’s due to the same reason. One day I will make it to Expert Server haha.
Ok thanks for your input. I agree with the less friction on the wheels the less braking pressure and it would be less effective.
Yes good point I didn’t think about that. The time they extend to position you will be at a slow enough speed.
Well seeing as going from takeoff config to a landing config takes time, you would probably have stopped before reaching halfway… :P Worst case, if you’re right below V1, you could apply more lift…
Yes good point you could apply more lift and see if that would help.
Remember V1 is without reverser thrust, so it’s possible (but not recommended) to abort above it
Yes thank you for that. I didn’t think about that one either.
Completely wrong. V1 is the speed at which you cannot abort take off and must go with the take off.
