How do you like to brake?

Say that you are landing a 737-800 at KDEN. How do you like to brake the plane? Do you apply full reverse thrusters and brakes and try to get off the runway as fast as possible? Do you apply full reversers and activate brakes at 60 knots, or do you put around 80% reversers and apply brakes at 60kts. and slowly roll off the runway farther down?

I like to try to make the landing very long if it is a long runway. I do this so the braking force is smoother and not as strong. During my experience on commercial flights, I noticed that at KLGA in a 737 Landing in 22(7,005 feet) that there was a lot of braking force and the pilot taxied off the runway fast, but when I flew an MD-80 into MPVR(12,000 feet), the pilot used minimal braking force and we turned off right before the touchdown zone on the other end of the runway. How do you brake?

I generally apply 40% reverse thrust until I reach 60 knots. Then I brake.

I usually apply 60% reverse thrust, let it got at 60kts and then apply brakes

For the reverse thrust, I like to keep it at about 70% N1, I brake after my nose touches the ground.

1-10% reverse and brakes after nose touch down.

As you said, all depends on the runway!

I was flying a 787-10 into KPSP runway31L a few days ago and even though the runway is 10000 ft, the run off zones are huge and I really had to brake hard. My nose wheel only touched down halfway through the runway…

I do 60% reverse thrust until 100kts then decrease to 30% reverse thrust. Once at 80 kts I pull my rudder down to simulate manual braking. Once at 60kts, reversers come off and I continue manual braking until 30kts and proceed off the runway.

That’s exactly what I do.

It depends on traffic in IF for me. That and the exit location. If I have inbounds on my tail then ill aggressively brake or if I know I’ll have to back taxi or taxi a long distance back to the terminal if I miss the first or second exit.

I usually apply thrust reversers on full when the plane touches, then wait for the nose wheel to touch to apply brakes. When the plane reaches 30 kts I diss-arm the brakes and thrust until I reach an exit. At the exit I brake to 20 kts and stop to request taxi after I pass the hold short position.

I sometimes do not use brakes for the 787-800 because it slows down relatively quickly . I usually use reverse thrust until i am at 30 kts then I exit the runway . Sometimes when I realize I have limited runway or not much runway exits and I am about 15 seconds until impact i cut power completely and use ever instrument in arsenal to slow her down

You should release reverse thrust at around 60-80kts

Isn’t that a little too fast

No as you can just hit the brakes. It is also more realistic

I will try that

It depends on where my parking/gate is, I will brake accordingly so I don’t have to taxi as far. If it’s towards the end of the runway I’ll roll out as long as possible with minimal reverse thrust. If I’m parking at KSAN Cargo, where the last exit is halfway down the runway, I’ll use close to max reverse and braking to make the exit.

I don’t reverse. Just brake, it’s fine

I don’t care what you do but if I tell you to please expedite exiting the runway, you better do it. With unrealistically high traffic in IF and people doing 190kts on short final, you might need to use some excessive braking to get out of the way.

Did I do something or is that just in general?

In general, not directed at you specifically. :)
