Hey guys - I was wondering what makes y’all create a particular route. I’ve just been curious how y’all decide a route. I make my routes based on length (time) and the aircraft. I don’t really mind certain airports, but I do like KXNA and KEWR. Well, let us now down below how you decide.
I choose my routes based on flight time, and what interests me at the moment. If I want to do a short haul route in Europe, then I’ll come up with some ideas of routes I could do there.
For me, I usually have a certain airline/airport/aircraft/livery I want to fly, then I use flightsfrom to find a real life route. Either that or I look at the ATC schedule and find a route to the main airport that I’d want to do
It depends for me. Sometimes I want to do a scenic route, in which case I will scour the webs or the IFC to find possible routes. Other times if I want to do a long/short haul flight, I will often base it off previous flights I have been on, or IRL routes that match the length of flight/airline/aircraft I want to do.
I decided on the current route after seeing references from the original YouTube or Facebook videos, but especially I like the vintage routes. Of course, if there were vintage routes and vintage airplanes in infinite flight, which are now no longer operating, this would be my interest and I would like to try it right away. Like Douglas DC-10 / MD-11, Boeing 747-200, Boeing 757. And do not rule out the Boeing 747 and 767 too.
I look at the featured airports and decide by that, or I just pick a flight off FR24 that interests me , or I just fly into an airport I love to fly into. It just depends on what I feel like doing.
This is pretty much exactly what I do. So usually for me it starts with a thought such as “I’ve never flown into Rome before, let’s try that.” Then, I decide what time I want to land, such as 8PM (my time) when I know I won’t have anything going on. Once I know that, I know how long my flight needs to be. So I look around on FR24, and see something like “oh ITA airways flys from LAX-FCO and that’s a 12 hour flight, exactly what I need.” I file the flight plan and I’m off!
If you wanna do it the most realistic use an website that shows routes of the most commonly used routes from real airliners, Although you wont be able to copy them exactly you can get a gist and also will learn more about the SIDs and STARs.
I do what some of the others have mentioned, finding destinations on FR24. Now, I want to fly to Destin, FL after seeing an Allegiant flight from my hometown to Destin. Allegiant has a lot of interesting routes.
Also, I look at airport websites and see the airline/destination and choose based on that. I usually fly United’s routes.
