How do you challenge yourself?

Flying in IF flight is fun. But sometimes, I‘m getting bored flying from point A to point B just watching my tablet screen.

In that moment, I start challenging myself. I decide to fly a whole flight without autopilot, I use the „Windy“ app and look for the aiports with the strongest winds to land on, I fly into extreme turbulences and try to hold the plane steady, I try to get my rudder stuck and land with that, I close the HUD and try to land without instruments or I shut down an engine while landing with >30kn sidewinds. I really love that, because a) I love challenges and b) it is a very good training. Not only for my IF flying skills. It is also a good training for my concentration and my multi tasking abilities.

How do you challenge yourself? What do you do in IF when you’re looking for a little adventure?

I‘m looking forward to your answers! Happy landings!

I usually hop into an overweight a380 in solo mode and turn up the winds.

Trying to fly the tightest patterns possible in an airliner, lots of fun for me but Idk about atc’s.

Crosswind landings with the 717.

Never leave the cockpit view, fly on “HUD-2,” with areas I know very well (LA), I try to navigate to the airport without looking at my map or following waypoints, etc. It gives the simulator a whole new purpose if you really, really challenge yourself.

That sounds great! I’ll try that too

Last year a challenge was to go to knuc with no atc on ts1.

Now I like playing with weight, wind and the engines to challenge myself.

One of my favorites is set a course and cut the engines at cruising altitude and find a nearby airport and attempt to land. Or get one engine back on line.

This is often pretty fun for me. Especially when you’re heading over a mountainous area where the airport altitudes differ.

Go to HUD-2 (no map or anything), go to an area you don’t know, turn off airport names and try landing at the airport in night. For an extra challenge, add 50kt crosswinds.

I challenge myself to avoid airports I’ve already flown from. Ever since Global, I have never landed twice at the same airport. I may have landed at an airport, then took off the next day, however the above text stays true. It’s good to see different scenery each time I fly instead of always taking off out of KJFK.

For an even better challenge, make sure there are plenty of mountains. I tried landing at an airport in the Alps at night; shoulda paid closer attention to the screen, cause if I woulda it woulda been my longest flight.

It’s called flying VFR my dude.

Have you considered joining a VA and done group flights

I challenge myself by sleeping and waking up to land… Its hard waking up and looking at a screen when you have to land an aircraft…

In an MD-11 with a flight plan? I don’t think so.

Forget with no atc, the pilots would do whatever they wanted even with ATC!

Ive been trying to fly with just the primary flight display on @epaga ‘s app, IFinstroments, and a few other readings on the status bar. Quite challenging, especially in the jets.

Really trying to do anything in a 717 is a challenge.

Control three frequencies blindfolded.

Well, that explains quite a bit…

Spawn in at any airport with winds off. Turn your aircraft to face the winds (use a Cessna) and throttle 100% set winds to high along with wind gusts and turbulence. The see how long you last it gets interesting let me leave it at that…
