How do I inform ATC?

When I am close to my destination I dont know whether to say call inbound to the airport or on final to airport? Also what do the other choices in the report position category mean like right downwind etc.?

Ok so you would call inbound to the airport as your approaching. The controller will give you further instructions.

Make sure you fully understand this before bothering busy controllers šŸ˜‰ Have a practice on the casual server.

Never report position unless it’s Unicom or you are really close to the runway and the tower just comes on

And also what should you do in regards to contacting atc once you have taken off?

Will do. Thanks for the help.

If you requested takeoff departing North, East, South or West then you don’t need to request a departure to wherever after takeoff. If you request takeoff departing straight out then you depart straight out unless you want to turn a little while after takeoff then you would request a departure to North, East, South or West. When you request takeoff remaining in the pattern you always remain in the pattern unless you have plans to depart after a few patterns or you just changed your mind and wanted to depart. :)

I’ve seen an ATC mod just report final before without calling inbound. I don’t think that is the right thing to do though, but it makes me wonder. I agree with you on this one. Maybe another ATC can tell me otherwise…

You should always call inbound on initial contact, especially when there is no approach controller, so you can receive a pattern entry and sequence.
