Hi Fly becomes first plastic-free airline

Today at school we were talking about climate change and after the lecture I went up to my teacher and told her how much trash planes make and she showed me this article on Portuguese Airline, Hi Fly has been trying out flights without using any plastic cutlery.Hi Fly is planning on phasing out all plastic throughout it’s fleet by the end of 2019

Great idea. Considering that hundreds of plastic cups (among other things) are used per flight (and there’s tens of thousands of flights per day) this is a great way to save the environment. Let’s see if any other airlines start doing this.

It is sort of interesting that HiFly are doing this, being a charter airline, I’d assume they have less wiggle room for these things, not to mention they have very little to gain by doing it…

I think this is a great move from them. I hope this can become a trend and more airlines will start doing it to show that it is possible to fly plastic-free.

It’s incredible how many airlines are trying to cut down on things like plastic straws and utensils, like for example Alaska Airlines is phasing out and replacing plastic straws with straws made from more sustainable material

McDonald’s have done that and many others. Not a fan personally, nasty things. There are alternatives that aren’t plastic though which essentially have the same properties. Specifically the #imnotplastic straws.

I’ve tried it once, never again. So completely agree with you.
My post was ironic. But I support those trying to cut down use of plastic

As long as they have firmer paper straws then we have in the US, I’m good

The mcdonalds paper straws cannot be recycled.

Exactly. Exceptionally pointless and they don’t serve their purpose. We use our own straws, you can’t have a milkshake or slowly drink your beverage without it crumbling and destroying itself. Biodegradable plastic should have been used or an alternative material. Issue is they are likely trying to do things the cheap way.

Great idea, seen as there are so many used per flight, it’s a small step that might start a huge revolution.
