Hello 2021, Bye Bye Spotting | Munich, January 3 & 8, 2021

Welcome back!

2020 has ended, but traffic remains low in Munich. Nevertheless, a few more or less special planes made their way to Munich during the last few days (in questionable weather).

Right on the third day of the year, Nordwind Airlines sent one of their Boeing 777-200s on a cargo flight from China, which later departed in horrible weather.

Due to the lack of light, I initially planned to spot it during deicing. Since Nordwind is a Russian airline, I had to cancel that plan when no deicing was scheduled for it so one of the few pics I took at my initial position was the way smaller Embraer of Belavia.

One week later, winter arrived in Munich adding some snow to the pictures I took back on friday. One of the few arrivals in these conditions was Lufthansa’s Hauptstadtflieger livery coming back home.

You like the whiteness of the snow? Then you will love the following picture for even more whiteness. The world’s first Airbus A350CJ owned by K5 Aviation was delivered to Munich in late 2020 but arrived in the middle of the night, so this week’s test flight was the first chance to spot the plane with “light”. Since it is still to undergo cabin fitting and painting, it is currently flying in all-white and fully empty.

To add a little color to the pictures, Emirates brought one of its EXPO 777s once again, seen here departing back to Dubai.

With these few shots spotting in 2021 probably comes to a temporary end for me, since it’s quite likely that new regulations in place in Germany will keep me from the airport from Monday no matter the weather or traffic for at least one week, if not until the end of January or even longer.

Thanks for visiting this topic! I hope you liked it! See you for the next topic ;)

My Equipment:

Canon EOS 80D
Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS II USM (99% of pics)
Canon EF 24-105mm f/4.0 L IS II USM (for wide angle pics)

Backup / Old Lenses

Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS (for the 1% of the cases where I needed a wide angle lens, replaced by the 24-105 now)
Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS STM (for the majority of my very old pics, bascially completely replaced by the 100-400 now)

I still wonder how it got there because there never was a sign on top of the spotter hill, someone must have been extremely bored lol

The white A350 looks so modern and elegant for some reason… I don’t know why but that picture fascinates me so much

I like Lufthansa’s BER livery!

It apparently won’t stay that way but it’s probably going to get a blue tail, at least from what I’ve heard.

Hopefully I get a camera soon so I can spot it when its ready! Do you know by any chance if the A350 which came in from Frankfurt a few days ago will start to operate to/from Munich again or is he just here for maintenance?

Great pictures! And very interesting liveries that we don’t see often for some of this airlines 😉
