Thanks, This is what I was looking for :)

Very nice! Good job.

Is this true? I thought if you are clearing for the option and the pattern is remaining the same you wouldn’t clear left/right traffic because the pilot should assume to remain the same flow as previously instructed.

1 Like

That’s absolutely correct too, however what it’s shown there is true as well. I’ll rephrase it to include both, thanks for pointing it out!

I’m learning and mainly I was making sure I understood correctly for my test. lol. Thanks for clarifying.

I personally would not use what @nicopizarro’s example is. While IFATC has limited commands to handle no pattern work Touch and Go’s, I would just tell the person that pattern work is not allowed and land or divert and it be as simple as that.

“Cleared for the option” without the directional traffic is used primarily only for pattern work, and after the person has already been in an established pattern as you said @Jshnlsn

@Jshnlsn the command explanation you are referring to, has been rephrased 👍

@mwe2187 & @nicopizarro -

Thanks mates for the clarification. Like I previously said, I was just confused because I was studying for IFATC - and I thought I understood it’s usage but then I got confused by this explanation

Josh

Also - @nicopizarro - great work on this, it’s awesome.

Does “cleared for takeoff” give permission to back taxi?

I have read the hole ATC guide and it was so helpful @nicopizarro

I think there’s a separate command for that, like “backtaxi rwy xx, cleared for takeoff” or something. Idk for sure tho

It does, yes.

Section 3.2.4 on the ATC manual:

It is important to note that back-taxi is pilot discretion, and therefore even with clearance to LUAW or take-off, pilots may elect to back-taxi.
