Guidance on IFC, IFVARB, and VO Jurisdictions

These rules explain the overlap of jurisdiction between this forum, VOs, and the IFVARB

It is important that we take a holistic approach when looking at the safety of our online spaces. Forum moderators, staff, community volunteers, and users must work together to make sure all platforms are safe, accessible, and welcoming. This guidance explains the overlap between the justifications of the forum moderation and staff teams, VO leaders, and the IFVARB.

The main points of this topic are as followed:

1. Whilst the IFC moderation and staff team have no jurisdiction over third-party platforms, if issues are brought up that include targeted threats, harassment, sexism, racism, homophobia, or discrimination of any kind towards another forum or VA member, they may take action within the jurisdiction the IFC for the protection of our users.

2. IFC suspensions will carry over to the IFVARB automatically. A temporary IFC suspension will be a watchlist in the IFVARB. A permanent IFC suspension will be a blacklist in the IFVARB. This is automatic and happens every time.

3. IFVARB blacklists and watchlist will not automatically lead to IFC suspensions, however these will be reviewed by the staff and moderation team on the IFC and may lead to suspension from there too if deemed necessary

4. Issues brought to the IFVARB by VAs from Discord servers, private chats, or other third-party locations that include targeted threats to VAs, harassment, sexism, racism, homophobia, or discrimination of any kind towards another forum or VA member will result in potential watchlisting or blacklisting of the user in question. This then may lead to IFC suspensions or warnings if the situation is serious.

The Infinite Flight Forum

This forum is the sole official platform for engaging with the Infinite Flight worldwide community. The staff and moderation team oversee the workings of the forum and make sure that it runs smoothly and all users have safety measures in place to protect them.

Whilst, for the most part, issues on third party platforms do not necessitate any involvement by the staff and moderation team, if we are made aware of issues, we may seek to act within our jurisdiction on this forum as a result. This can include suspensions, informal warnings, and formal warnings. Whilst these may be for issues that have happened off the IFC, we have to make sure we are protecting our users first and foremost.

We will not take action unless the issue is between Infinite Flight users and in an Infinite Flight related discussion-based platform.

We will not act on any issues that are on third-party platforms unless they include the following targeted at another forum user:

  • Threats of violence or intimidation
  • Racism, homophobia, sexism
  • Any other discrimination of any kind

Infinite Flight firmly believes that these actions and opinions have no place anywhere, and we will ensure our users can feel safe on our forum away from this.

If a user is suspended from the Infinite Flight forum, action will be taken on by the IFVARB, and subsequently by VOs. IFC suspensions will carry over to the IFVARB automatically. A temporary IFC suspension will be a watchlist in the IFVARB. A permanent IFC suspension will be a blacklist in the IFVARB. This is automatic and happens every time.

The IFVARB

The IFVARB oversees all approved virtual organisation operations. This is a volunteer group of users, and they hold no official position amongst Infinite Flight. The IFVARB operate under the authority of staff, and any action taken against a virtual airline user is done under the authority of Infinite Flight staff.

The IFVARB has no jurisdiction on the Infinite Flight forum, and they cannot request users to be suspended or warnings to be given. This lies firmly under the control of the IFC staff and moderation team. The IFVARB, however, does blacklist and watchlist users. In this case, the IFC team may look into this and take action on the IFC is deemed necessary. This is for the protection of our IFC members.

You can find the general rules and policies of the IFVARB below:

IFVARB blacklists and watchlist will not automatically lead to IFC suspensions, however, these will be reviewed by the staff and moderation team on the IFC and may lead to suspension from there too if deemed necessary.

Virtual Organisations

Virtual organisations are community-run groups, namely virtual airlines, that allow users to join and fly with other users. There is a list of approved VOs, however, there are many other groups you can find on the likes of Facebook Groups. These unapproved VOs are not covered under the jurisdiction of the IFVARB.

VOs are free to accept and remove who they wish, however, the IFVARB can intervene at any time. VO leaders have no jurisdiction in IFVARB decisions (some exclusions apply).

VOs can bring issues between members to the IFVARB at any time, and this can include incidences between members that have happened on third-party platforms such as Discord. Issues brought to the IFVARB by VAs from Discord serves, private chats, or other third-party locations that include targeted threats to VAs, harassment, sexism, racism, homophobia, or discrimination of any kind towards a VA member will result in a watchlisting or blacklisting of the user in question. This then may lead to IFC suspensions or warnings if the situation is serious.
