On some flights at cruising altitude, say at 30,000 ft, I could be crushing at say 320 knots. But maybe 40 minutes later, I would be over speeding even though I am still at 320 knots.
Also, the ground speed seems to change. I could be at 520 knots while at that 320 knots at 30,000 ft and it can change to 480 knots at the same speed/altitude.
Overspeed will only be considered based on your indicated airspeed. Ground speed is not a factor, unless you are issued with a “Ground Overspeed” violation, indicating that you were taxiing over 35 knots over ground.
Returning to violations from indicated airspeed, so long as you don’t go over 260 knots under 10,000 feet and 350 knots over 10,000 feet, you’ll be fine. Ground speed can change from time to time as a result of winds at cruise altitude.
Funny. I was doing this earlier while AFK, with AP set hard on 340 knots, yet when I returned, it turned out I was kicked for overspeeding. I know it couldnt be VNAV because it was not ready to descend yet, which really confused me
