I’m pretty sure you’re supposed to contact Tower when crossing active runways especially at a busy airport like KMIA at the time. So how come the Tower controller told me to contact Ground? Real world procedures need to be enforced.
It’s up to the discretion of the controller. Tower and ground controllers can issue runway crossing instructions as they see fit for operational efficiency and the same goes for irl.

I don’t know the specifics of the scenario but:

Either you were being told to cross an inactive runway at the time, which does not require coordination between tower and ground
-
Tower and ground were being controlled by the same user at the time, so handing off between G/T would be somewhat redundant.

If you have exited the runway and need to cross another runway via a taxiway located very close to the one you landed on, you will typically remain on the tower frequency until you have crossed the runway. In addition to ensuring efficient coordination, this also allows the tower to more easily arrange for aircraft to take off from the runway being crossed.
