It is the airports Beacon

Depending on how an airport’s beacon flashes and it’s color is telling pilots the status of the airport. This is important info in case radio or satellite communications are non operable.

Yes in IF it is just the beacon to make it more realistic. It is interesting to learn more about it, you will notice it while flying too in real life. I believe the degree that the light can be seen is different based on the type also. I thought it was a 10 degree angle but could be wrong.

MaxSez: @Chris_S… Excellant Grafic, its Sez it all. Beacons are ideal land marks, particularly in Metro Area’s. Remember the United flight that landed at a military field by mistake. Beacon color flashes are imported, particularly in Heavy weather, low light and urban glow. Remember this bit of insight it may save your life IRW.
