Green and white strobe light

This may seem like an ignorant question, but what is the green and white rotating light at almost every airport for, and what does it symbolize?

As Henrik said, it’s the airport beacon. Helps finding the airport at night or in low visibility/bad weather conditions easier.

Is for identify airports at night. For example: White/green means is a Civilian Airport, white/white/green means is a Military Airport, white/red/green I think, are for Hospital helipads…
