As Lufthansa prepares the retirement of their A346, today is the final day that an A340-600 is serving the flight LH796 from Frankfrut to Hong Kong. While A340s might often be seen in other airports in Europe or US, the A340 serves as the only single deck quad-engine passenger plane in Hong Kong, which explains why this plane has been treated as a jem by the Hong Kong aviation community.
Unfortunately, due to time schedules, I have only been able to catch the A346 around 6-7 times, here are my best shots!
Starting from tomorrow, the A346 will be replaced by the Lufthansa A359, which honestly isn’t a bad replacement, it’s just we will never see this rare jet anymore…

I’ve only seen a Lufthansa A340-600 once as an extremely rare equipment swap from the A340-300 on the Frankfurt route at the time. I am so grateful that i was able to film it (Mhm.. yeah I went out for an Air France 777-300ER, another extremely rare catch as well lol). Sad to see them go.. The A340 and her variants may be a troubled plane but she is a still a pretty lady who just didn’t have what many wanted. They tried to make her better, but sometimes enough is enough. Hope retirement treats her and her sisters better.

The spiritual successor to the 707, DC8 and Convairs is leaving Lufthansa, kinda sad but will always be a beautiful quadjet. I have a swiss model/toy of an a340. Always loved the quadjets
