Hi everyone. I’m in the UK for the next few days and wanted to know if anyone had recommendations on plane spotting areas at Gatwick. I found Myrtle Avenue at Heathrow, but can’t seem to find good ones at Gatwick.
I don’t have personal knowledge, but I would definitely take a look at this website. Has a map with locations and detailed instructions/descriptions for each.
Also if you’re phone spotting a lot of those spots may or may not be ideal, I would say go spot 2 if 26L is in use and make up a spot between 4 and 5 that’s closer to the runway if 08R is in use. Also no personal experience there but generally with a phone you wanna get close.
I’ve just been plane spotting at Gatwick today actually. Runway 08R arrivals and take offs.
Regarding spotting, it might be worth going to ‘Gatwick Aviation Museum’, which is located in Charlwood, and it’s at Runway 08R end. So you’ll see the planes taxi, take off and landing all past you.
Gatwick Aviation Museum is open from Friday to Sunday only (10am-5pm) and you can only spot there during the museums opening hours. The spotting view is at the end of the field (approx 5 min walk from the museum) and costs £12 to enter the museum, or £40 to become a member. I’ve purchased a membership today, and think it’s really good value if you want to go there and spot and look around the museum.
Gatwick Aviation Musuem has a cafe, toilets and free parking. It’s worth visiting, even if the planes are landing on Runway 26L end!
